American Eagle Gold Coins

American Eagle Gold coins are purchased for many reasons, not the least of which is patriotism. The Gold Eagle is created from gold mined only in the USA. There are many who like to show support for their country as well as profit from their investment.

American Eagle Gold coins were first introduced in1986, following their recognition under the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. Prior to that time American citizens had been forbidden to own gold by an act of congress dating back to 1933.
Not suprisingly Gold Eagles have become extremely popular and are sold by just about every coin and precious metal dealer in the United States.

Gold eagles are made of 22K gold of 91.67% purity which is the traditional weight used by US gold coins made prior to 1933.

The Gold Eagles come in a variety of denominations which does make gold ownership possible for those who cant justify buying a full ounce.

The face value of the gold eagles have no relation to their actual price. At the time of this writing 1 oz. Gold eagles were selling for around $1100 US. The face values are the traditional face values from US gold eagle coins made prior to 1933.

Eagles are purchased because they areconsidered to be far more stable than the price of currencies. At this time the price of gold is high and the US dollar is in decline. Demand for the Eagle is high. The same is true for many world coins such as the Krugerand and the British Sovereign.

In 2008 A late-summer gold rush led the U.S. Mint to suspend sales of the 1-ounce coins for the first time since the coins introduction. The suspension did not affect collectible versions of the Eagle, though. The Uncirculated and Proof Gold Eagles are still available from the US mint.

These items are sold at a fixed price, however. Unlike the regular Eagles which can be purchased at a premium to the spot price of gold.

Is US Mint having trouble finding  US gold refiners willing to sell them gold at "market"prices?   Has the recent decline in gold prices sent people scrambling to buy Gold Eagles? As yet, the Mint has not offered an explanation or said anything about when sales will resume.

Not suprisingly sales of Gold Eagles on sites like eBay are at an all time high.
