Gold Coins of the World

Gold coins of the world - New Zealand. In 2008 New Zealand celebrated the accomplishments of famous mountain climber and native son Sir Edmund Hillary with a special $10.00 gold coin. The coin will be be limited to only 1953 copies in honour of the year Hillary successfully climbed Mount Everest

With the pure gold content and the low mintage this coin should make this coin highly collectible and a great addition to a collection of gold coins.

This coin, made from a quarter troy ounce of pure gold shows Sir Edmund Hillary against a backdrop of Mount Everest. Hillary climbed Everest on May 29 1953 at the age of 33 with Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay. Hillary was known for his devotion to the Nepalese people through his creation of the Himalayan Trust.

It is not the first time Sir Edmund Hillary has been honoured through New Zealand Currency. In 1992, he was the only living New Zealander to appear on a banknote. It is only right that after Hillary's death on January 11 2008, he should appear on gold and silver commemorative coins.

Arthur and Ira Freidburg are highly respected gold coin dealers and their book "Coins of the World" is considered by many many coin collectors to be the definitive work on world gold coins. Here are links to sales of the book taking place on eBay.
